Ayr claim vital victory

Ayr moved out of the bottom three of the First Division with a narrow 1-0 victory over mid-table Partick Thistle.
The hosts were on the attack from the start and Daniel McKay, Ryan McGowan and Tom McManus all squandered opportunities from the edge of the area.
Partick's David Rowson brought a good save out of Craig Samson, but Ayr went ahead 10 minutes before the break when Steve Bowey fired a fine 20-yard effort into the top corner.
Partick pushed for an equaliser after the break and Ryan Conroy should have done better when his close-range effort went into the post.
Ayr could have sealed victory in the dying stages but McGowan put his effort wide from a good position.
