Player fulfils dream by moving to the Bernabeu...
Ricardo Carvalho can't wait to reunite with Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid and is looking forward to the fight for the Primera Division with Barcelona.
Carvalho, 32, completed his switch to the Spanish capital today after spending six successful years in the Premier League. After playing under 'The Special One' at Porto and Chelsea, he was sure they could continue winning trophies together.
Speaking at a press conference this afternoon, he revealed that while not enjoying a perfect relationship with the head coach, the lure of playing for Madrid and Mourinho was huge.
"Wherever Mourinho goes, he wins. He is a great coach, as has already been demonstrated," Carvalho said.
"Players have full confidence in him.
"We didn't have always a good relationship. There were moments when the relationship was not good, and in some others, it was good.
"This is normal with people"
There has been much debate as to whether Carvalho will be handed a starting spot at centre-back or left on the substitute's bench. The Portgual international promised to work hard immediately no matter what role he is handed.
"This is an important step for me in my career. For a long time I have wanted to play for Real Madrid," he said.
"I'm here to help. I don't feel like starter or substitute.
"I came here to add and to work sincerely from the first day."
Carvalho was also aware of the challenge faced by bitter rivals Barcelona. He believed Madrid must concentrate on their own strengths rather than the reigning champions.
He stated: "They got great players and they have been playing at great level for some years. But we must be aware of Real Madrid, create a strong group and win many games."
