Tottenham vs West Brom

Saturday 11th September 2010,

English Premier League Football

Kick-Off: 15:00

West Brom

After returning back to the Premier League this season, West Bromwich Albion find themselves on three points after a difficult opening three matches.

After a 6-0 opening day thrashing at the hands of reigning champions Chelsea, West Brom put the hiding behind them to score a 1-0 victory over Sunderland at home.

A challenging match against Liverpool at Anfield saw West Bromwich lose only a single Fernando Torres goal, and so manager Roberto di Matteo will likely be happy with his team's performance so far.

Playing at home in this West Brom vs Tottenham fixture will give WBA a chance to continue their good run of form against one of the league's top contenders.

Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs pulled off the coup of the transfer window, signing Real Madrid and Holland international midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart for £8m right on the deadline.

The 27-year-old will add skill, experience and creativity to a Tottenham side looking to not only fare well in this season's Champions League competition, but also to land another top-four spot by the end of the Premier League season to secure another berth in Europe's top club competition last season.

Tottenham Hotspur will want to put last weekend behind them, suffering a shock 1-0 loss at home to a Wigan side that had already conceded 10 goals in their opening two matches.

Spurs put in a sluggish display that may have been the result of the Champions League play-off hangover, having faced Young Boys in the midweek.

With their spot in the competition confirmed after the aggregate victory, manager Harry Redknapp will be hoping that this match against West Brom will give Tottenham the chance to return to good form, with a busy schedule ahead.

Spurs face a big blow with the loss of Michael Dawson's for an estimated six to eight weeks, after the central defender injured his knee in England's 4-0 victory over Bulgaria.

Jermain Defoe also hobbled off after his impressive hat-trick, but England manager Fabio Capello has stated that the injury was not serious.

Football Match Prediction

West Bromwich beat Tottenham 2-0 at home in December 2008 when the two teams met in the 2008/09 Premier League season, although Spurs soon turned their fortunes around, and by the time the teams met again at White Hart Lane in May 2009, Spurs were 1-0 victors.

After the disappointing loss to Wigan, Tottenham will be keen to ensure they don't drop any more "easy" points this season if they want to be genuine contenders for a top four finish.

West Brom have a good record at home against Spurs, winning two, drawing one and losing one of their last four meetings.

But with Spurs having an improved side this season, and with Van der Vaart likely to slot straight into the Tottenham midfielder, the London side should manage to earn themselves three points at the end of 90 minutes.

West Brom vs Tottenham Prediction: WBA 1 - 2 Spurs
