Wayne and Coleen Rooney have issued a joint statement for the media to respect their privacy following the 'painful' accusations of infidelity.
Allegations emerged in the British press last weekend about the Manchester United striker's private life. Both the front and back pages have been dominated by the story since, with photographers and journalists massed outside their homes.
In attempt to alleviate the pressure, the Rooney's have joined together to request a halt to the hounding.
"[The] last six days have been extremely painful for us and for our families," the couple were quoted as stating by Sky News.
They added: "It is impossible for us, as it would be for any family, to attempt to resolve any issues in the current media glare and against the backdrop of so many inaccurate and intrusive stories.
"We would therefore ask that the media now respects our privacy and the right of our family to discuss these matters in private."
