Real Madrid stars Iker Casillas and Ricardo Carvalho have insisted that los Merengues continue to improve following their 3-0 win over Espanyol at the Santiago Bernabeu which sends them top of the Primera Liga table.

A first half penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo and second half goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema ensured a full share of the spoils for Madrid as both sides finished the contest with 10 men with Pepe and Ernesto Galan both sent off.

"Every game we demand more, the team is winning, we are on top [of the league] and it is not easy for people who have just arrived to settle in so quickly. We continue to urge patience. We're in heading in the right direction. We must maintain order in all areas, it is true that sometimes it seems that we deviated from that but that's okay, we need time," captain Casillas was quoted as saying by AS.

Central defender Carvalho said winning is bredding confidence in the team but he says there is further room for improvement.

"It is important to win these games because it gives us confidence and encouragement. These are games we have to win to keep growing as a team. Today we had to play well and win, we won but I'm sure we will improve our game," he remarked.
