Real Madrid have shown their support for the 33 miners trapped in Chile by sending them signed shirts and other gifts.
The Friends of Real Madrid Foundation-Chile took the initiative to try to improve their morale and to acknowledge that they are being sympathised within the world of sport as well.
Santiago Mayor Pablo Zalaquett and children of the Friends of Real Madrid Foundation presented the shirt to the Minister of Mining Laurence Golborne. The gifts include photo albums of players and an invitation to watch a game at the Santiago Bernabeu.
"The president of Real Madrid is showing his support for the trapped miners and their families by sending this gift," Zalaquett is quoted as saying by Madrid's official website. "It also personifies the value, fighting spirit, organization and perseverance when confronted with danger that these 33 men are going through."
Golborne echoed the mayor's thoughts and thanked him and the club for the gifts.
"Thank you to Real Madrid and Mayor Pablo Zalaquett for this initiative. It means a lot that an entire country like Spain is following this odyssey that we are going through. I hope the miners are able to enjoy these gifts."
