Newcastle v Arsenal

I have a say

Time to get over the Man City victory and get back to winning trophies!! Arsenal can take a big step in that direction if they can beat Newcastle at St James’ Park on Wednesday.
I will be interested to see what sort of team Wenger plays against Newcatle. In previous season’s he has used the Carling Cup to blood some of Arsenal’s promising young talent. But against Spurs in the last round he selected a more experienced team as Arsenal won 4-1. Maybe Arsene has decided that this is the year that Arsenal’s trophy drought ends, and that he has made the Carling Cup a more important competition than it was in the past?
On the other side, this season is all Premier League survival for Newcastle, and they have a massive North East derby against Sunderland to look forward to at the weekend. So I would be shocked to see more than one or two of Newcastle’s players who played against West Ham at the weekend, play against Arsenal.
Arsenal Team

I expect to see Walcott and Bendtner, who are both returning from injury, start as well as Jack Wilshere, who is suspended for the next two Premier League games. Vito Mannone should get the chance to play in goal and Carlos Vela up front. My mistakes. Wilshere suspension includes this game and I forgot that Mannone was on loan.

Match Facts
Newcastle have won 65 – one more than Arsenal – of the 165 previous meetings between these clubs.
Arsenal are unbeaten in their last seven cup matches against the Magpies. The Geordies have not won a cup match against the Gunners since beating them in the 1952 FA Cup final.
In their previous three meetings in the League Cup, Arsenal defeated Newcastle 2-0 in 1996 and 2007, and 4-0 in 1971.
In the last round, Arsenal scored four or more goals for the 22nd time in a League Cup tie, and for the eighth time against top-flight opposition.
The Gunners have won the League Cup twice in 1987 and 1993 and have been runners-up four times in 1968, 1969, 1988 and 2007.
They have been knocked at in the fifth round stage for the last two seasons – losing to Burnley and Manchester City.
Prediction
Newcastle is always a tough place to go and win, but Arsenal are playing with confidence here and I expect them to squeeze past Newcastle 2-1 in what I think will be a tough game
