GLASGOW, Scotland (AP)—American midfielder Maurice Edu will miss Glasgow Rangers’ Scottish Premier League match against Aberdeen on Saturday because of a knee injury but the club does not believe there was major damage.
Edu was stretchered off in the 43rd minute of Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to visiting Hibernian after injuring his left knee in a lunging tackle by John Rankin.
Edu was sidelined for seven months in 2009 when he hurt the same knee.
“Maurice Edu took a knock on the knee that he had the operation on a couple of years ago,” Rangers manager Walter Smith said. “He is having a precautionary scan today just to make sure everything is OK, but we are fairly confident that there is only a bit of bruising there and we feel it is nothing serious. He will certainly miss this weekend but we hope he will be OK for our games after that.”
Edu wrote on Twitter than he had the scan Friday.
“Went better than expected,” he said, “so hopefully I’m back sooner than later.”
