Ayr United welcome Stenhousemuir to Somerset Park with the Honest Men's manager Brian Reid hoping to have at least one new face in his defence come kick off time.

Bobby Donnelly and Dean Keenan continue to be ruled out, however Reid refused to confirm the identity of his signing target saying only, "I want to have the element of surprise in our favour."

Midfielder Alan Trouten should return after injury, however on-loan Partick Thistle engine room player Stuart Bannigan is a doubt with a back problem.

Reid is looking for his men to keep going this weekend after letting a two goal lead slip against Peterhead last Saturday saying, "We stopped playing last week for some reason and we cannot afford to do that two weeks in a row."

Stenhousemuir will be without defender Scott Gibb and striker Simon Lynch through injury again, while Alex Williams misses out through suspension.

But David Irons' side will be boosted by the return of Ian Thomson from suspension after he missed the 4-3 midweek Scottish Cup defeat to Stranraer.

Eric Paton, who played as trialist last weekend, will not feature for the Warriors.

Irons said: "We had been solid at the back for three games and then came unstuck against Stranraer.

"We will need to keep things tight against Ayr as Brian Reid has them playing well and their confidence will be high thanks to their cup run."
