LIVERPOOL will battle Arsenal for Philippe Mexes - if they miss out on Gary Cahill.
Bolton centre-half Cahill is Kop boss Kenny Dalglish's top summer target but a price of more than £15million may be too high. Now Mexes, 28, has emerged as a serious option.
The French international is out of contract at Roma in the summer and refusing to sign a new deal.
Arsenal have been watching developments but Dalglish is ready to gazump the Gunners.
