Alan Trouten netted his fifth league goal of the season as Ayr secured their Division Two play-off place with a 2-1 win at Dumbarton.
The former Clyde and Airdrie midfielder latched onto Michael Moffat's pass before calmly firing the ball into the bottom corner from 12 yards to give his side the lead after just 10 minutes.
The Honest Men then doubled the advantage just six minutes later when Trouten turned provider, whipping the ball in from the right for Moffat to fire into the bottom corner from close range.
Ebbie Malone turned Derek Carcary's cross into his own net in the 63rd minute as Dumbarton pulled a goal back but the visitors held on for all three points.
