Cesc Fabregas gives his girl the boot

SOCCER'S CESC FABREGAS has been playing through the heartbreak of splitting from his childhood sweetheart, The Sun can reveal.

Brunette CARLA GARCIA, 24 - the Arsenal ace's girlfriend for seven years - had been tipped by pals to wed the multi-millionaire Spaniard.

Last night he was said to be "cut up" over the break-up - despite his father revealing: "The decision to end the relationship was more his than Carla's."

Dad FRANCESC said at the family home in Arenys de Mar, near Barcelona: "It's a shame. They had been together for a long time and she was a lovely girl.

"But Cesc wants to be on his own. He preferred to end things before there were children or things like that."

The Gunners skipper, 23, was already dating Carla when Arsenal signed him as a 16-year-old from Spanish giants Barcelona - who are currently rumoured to want him back from the North London club for up to £40million.

Carla works for a top London PR firm. A pal of the pair said last night: "They were perfect for each other.

"All his friends were convinced it was just a matter of time before they walked down the aisle. Despite the break-up being amicable, Cesc has been pretty cut up about it.

"They had been together more than seven years and were childhood sweethearts."

Playmaker Fab has scored just nine goals this season - compared with 19 last year - as Arsenal kissed goodbye to any silverware.

The pal said: "News of the split is bound to fuel rumours he will move back to Spain this summer."

The star's spokesman refused to comment last night.
