SOCCER'S Jermaine Pennant has had an operation to pin back his sticky-out ears.

The badboy winger, who played for Stoke City in their FA Cup final defeat two weeks ago, splashed out on the corrective surgery at a top clinic this week.

Pennant, 28 - who also starred for Liverpool and Arsenal and was once Britain's most expensive teenage player - told pals he wanted the op after being horrified by photos from a recent magazine shoot.

Cruel chums had also dubbed him DUMBO after the floppy-eared baby elephant in Walt Disney's cartoon classic. Dad-of-one Pennant - tipped to wed 27-year-old model and law graduate Lara Murphy this summer - arrived at the exclusive London clinic at around 1pm on Tuesday.

Just under three hours later he emerged wearing a New York Yankees baseball cap back-to-front over a white bandage.

When approached by The Sun, the Premier League ace denied he'd had his ears pinned back - claiming he'd had "something" removed from the side of his head.

But a pal said he'd undergone the corrective op, which costs between £1,800 and £3,000 and takes around three hours.

The friend said: "Jermaine doesn't want anyone to know because he knows he'll get stick. But to be fair he can't win either way. He doesn't seem to realise people are bound to notice.

"It wouldn't have taken his team-mates long to spot it when he returned for pre-season training."

Pennant joined Arsenal in a £2million move from Notts County in 1999. But his career hit the skids when he was jailed in 2005 after being caught drink-driving while banned.
