Come on Arsene ... you have to let go of Cesc

I have a say

THE time has come for Arsene Wenger to be bold, be brave and take decisive action with Cesc Fabregas - by flogging him.

Come on Arsene ... you have to let go of Cesc

The more Fabregas yearns for home and the pull of the Nou Camp the less effective he becomes, as a player and a captain.

He couldn't have made it any more obvious he wants to join Barcelona if he'd had their motto 'Mes que un club' tattooed across his forehead.

Fabregas has tried to make his dream come true for the last three summers yet Wenger has always insisted he won't be sold.

But what is the point of going through this nonsense every year?

Fabregas just gets more frustrated and less focused on Arsenal.

Wenger gave the Spaniard the skipper's armband to show how much he wanted him to stay rather than because he thought he was the best man for the job.

And if you are in a team led by a man you know would rather be somewhere else, he is no sort of inspiration.

An injured Fabregas couldn't even be bothered to watch Arsenal's last game of the season at Fulham, preferring instead to attend the Spanish Grand Prix.

When he tweeted a pic of himself from the track that just rubbed it in, especially as the Gunners had dished up more rubbish and missed out on an automatic Champions League qualifying spot.

It looked like Fabregas didn't care and it was made worse when Liverpool's crocked captain Steven Gerrard was spotted sitting with the away fans at Villa as his team lost 1-0.

Fabregas was asked about Samir Nasri this week and whether the Frenchman should stay at the Emirates. "Samir is happy at Arsenal but I don't know what the best thing is for his career," said Fabregas somewhat limply.

He could hardly tell Nasri not to go to Manchester United if he wants to leave himself.

Even team-mate Bacary Sagna thinks it best Fabregas departs.

He said: "Cesc needs to return to his country, to his home, to rejoin his family. He needs to play for one of the best teams in the world which is Barcelona."

Arsenal used to be considered one of the best too but Sagna accepts they aren't any more.

Most Arsenal supporters seem indifferent to Fabregas going. He didn't have a great season and was never properly fit.

They will get over his transfer if Wenger spends the money and brings in quality new signings. After all, they haven't won anything since Fabregas got in the team apart from the FA Cup six years ago. Wenger's old sparring partner Alex Ferguson knew when he had to sell Cristiano Ronaldo.

United were never going to be as exciting without the Portuguese star and Fergie would have him back tomorrow if he could.

But the United boss recognised it was counter-productive chaining Ronaldo to the gates of Old Trafford, it was not good for team morale.

Wenger needs to grab the bull by the horns and get on with it so he can compete in the transfer market.

Hanging on to Fabregas isn't a strength now, it's a weakness. It suggests Wenger doesn't know how he'll cope without him.

Far from being a disaster, his sale could be the re-birth of Arsenal.

Becks is a Brit hot

DAVID BECKHAM flew the flag as an Olympic ambassador this week and made it clear he wants to play for Britain's football team when the extravaganza kicks off.

Cue the usual sneers from the anti-Becks brigade and accusations of being a self-serving publicity seeker.

But in a year when footballers have been attacked for opting out of Fabio Capello's England squad it is surely to Beckham's credit he still wants to play internationally.

You can't imagine our clubs queueing up to release players for the London 2012 competition which runs smack-bang into the start of the Premier League season.

Jack Wilshere wants to play in the Olympics but is that really going to happen given the hoo-ha over his withdrawal from the Under-21s this summer?

Arsene Wenger will lock the gates of the Gunners' London Colney training ground and throw away the key rather than let Wilshere take part.

If Becks wants to play he should, provided he's good enough to command a place.

And given the barrage of opposition there will be from club bosses he'll probably be the best player in the squad anyway - even at the age of 37.
