Sir Alex Ferguson will welcome a striking headache to make Man United Premier League kings again.
The Scot believes Wayne Rooney is “flying” after putting last season’s unsettling contract row behind him.
And Fergie is witnessing a promising partnership between the front man and his England colleague Danny Welbeck, 20, which they look set to continue against Spurs tonight.
The pair teamed up to sink West Brom after Dimitar Berbatov, last season’s 22-goal top scorer, was left on the bench and Javier Hernandez and Michael Owen were out injured.
But with the Mexican on his way back after recovering from concussion, Fergie is bracing himself for a selection dilemma.
He said: “Wayne has been flying in pre-season. His fitness is terrific, he has the same energy all the time. He is a restless player on the pitch.
“He is a tremendous asset. We have moved on from what happened a year ago.
“It is interesting to see how he is combining with Welbeck at the moment. Both are doing very well together.
“Berbatov has played well in pre-season and when Chicharito comes back I have a selection problem about the best combination. It’s not a bad position to be in actually.”
Leonardo, the Paris Saint Germain director of sport, said last night that Fergiehad told him Berbatov was not for sale.
