Under-Fire Steve Bruce saw his Sunderland side bag their first win of the season as they hammered Stoke 4-0 yesterday.
The Black Cats struck twice inside the first 11 minutes to end the visitors' unbeaten start to the campaign.
Bruce's assistant Eric Black later told fans to lay off the Sunderland boss who has borne the brunt of their anger after a disappointing run of results.
Black insisted: "People think Steve is this big robust character but it hurts him when he doesn't win.
"He's always been, and will always be, that way. Steve is from this area and, given what he has had to deal with, he will be happy.
"He has been fine but sometimes I think the criticism is unfair.
"Steve works hard and he puts decent teams together. But such is life. That's the pressure of a manager in the Premier League."
Stoke boss Tony Pulis said: "Goals change games. It ran for Sunderland and they deserved their victory."
