Liverpool’s Stewart Downing is hoping that the international break has not ruined his side’s momentum ahead of their Premier League clash with Manchester United.
"It's a tough game but we'll look forward to it and if we keep playing the way we are then we've got a chance of beating anyone," Downing said to reporters. "If we beat Manchester United we'll say the break did us good. If we don't people will point the finger and say the break killed us a bit."
The Reds face their fierce rivals on Saturday at Anfield, coming off back-to-back victories against Wolves and neighbors Everton, and the 27-year-old midfielder hopes that his side can continue its strong form with a win over United.
Both sides have had numerous players called up for international duty during the break, and the Merseyside outfit’s last victory was over a fortnight ago, leaving the England star to wonder how it will affect his side’s chances on Saturday.
