Above: Joey Barton feels some sympathy for refs
QPR bad boy Joey Barton needs to be on his best behaviour in front of today’s referee Chris Foy – after comparing match officials to TRAFFIC WARDENS!
Barton, 29, reckons the whistlers have similar characteristics to the parking police but concedes the refs, mostly, do a decent job.
And Barton (below) has revealed he has turned down the chance to take a referees’ course to better understand what makes them tick.
Barton told the Daily Star Sunday: “Referees are in the small percentile of people like traffic wardens that make a decision and a lot of people are going to hate them for it.
“If they give a decision for one team, the opposing team are going to be angry with them, so they can’t do right for doing wrong.
“It’s a difficult position so I do feel a bit of empathy for them.
“But I don’t want to do the job at all or go on a referees’ course.
“Every single decision they make is analysed and analysed again, so it’s really tough on them.
