MANCHESTER CITY are set for a £40m swoop for Uruguayan terror Edinson Cavani (right) even though the Napoli ace’s goal could have blown City’s Champions League hopes apart.
Napoli have opened the door for Manchester City to make a £40million-plus swoop for their Champions League tormentor Edinson Cavani.
Representatives of the Uruguayan striker, who scored both goals in City’s midweek defeat in Naples, met Etihad officials during their midweek trip to Italy.
It’s thought Napoli are willing to listen to offers for Cavani, 24, who is high on Roberto Mancini’s wanted list.
But the Daily Star Sunday believes Mancini is in no rush to move for Cavani (below) in the January window even if rebel Carlos Tevez is shipped out.
Cavani’s team-mate Ezequiel Lavezzi, 26, is also on City’s radar.
Mancini said: “I think Cavani and Lavezzi are strong players but they play for Napoli at this moment. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future.”
Meanwhile, there’s still no word on when Tevez will return from his exile in Argentina.
AC Milan are reported to be willing to splash £25m, with Tevez’s agent eager to get him to Italy.
