Newcastle vs West Bromwich(WBA) preview - Pardew looks to banish bad memories against Baggies

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is desperate to make West Brom pay for ruining his summer on Wednesday night.

The Baggies will arrive on Tyneside to revisit the scene of a remarkable fightback on the final day of the last Barclays Premier League season.

With both promoted teams already comfortably safe, the Magpies raced into a 3-0 lead by half-time and were odds-on to claim a creditable 10th-place finish.

However, to Pardew's horror, Somen Tchoyi plundered a second-half hat-trick to snatch an unlikely draw which not only forced Newcastle down into 12th place, but allowed arch rivals Sunderland to leapfrog them into the top 10.

Pardew said: "It was a shame, and it came on the last day of the season as well. I had to suffer that on my holidays.

"They did marvellously well to come back. We switched off, and it just goes to show you that you cannot switch off for any part of the season in this Premier League.

"West Brom actually didn't have anything to play for, but their pride and their natural instincts got them the three goals and it cost us three positions in the league."

Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye will miss his first Barclays Premier League game of the season.

The influential Frenchman is suspended after reaching five bookings for the campaign and will join fellow midfielder Dan Gosling on the banned list.

Full-back Ryan Taylor (ankle) and midfielder Danny Guthrie (groin) remain doubts, while striker Peter Lovenkrands could be sidelined for up to three weeks by a calf injury and Steven Taylor (Achilles) is expected to sit out the rest of the season.

West Brom boss Roy Hodgson has included recalled defender Gonzalo Jara in the squad, despite his weekend arrest for alleged driving offences.

Jara has been recalled from a loan spell at Brighton along with midfielder George Thorne (Portsmouth) and striker Marc-Antoine Fortune (Doncaster).

The Chile international was detained when police stopped an Audi Q7 sportscar on the south coast on Saturday morning and he missed Brighton's home game with Burnley because he was in police custody.

Jara has been charged with driving while disqualified and driving without insurance and bailed to appear before Brighton magistrates on January 20. Hodgson, who confirmed Jara will be part of his squad at St James' Park, said: "We are obviously not happy about the situation and I'm pretty sure he is unhappy about the situation.

"At the moment it is being taken care of by the police. I think he (Jara) is summoned to appear in court in the new year.

"Until such time that the court case comes up, and we hear what he is being accused of, and why, the best thing for us is to say as little as possible other than we are disappointed to see he finds himself in this situation."

West Brom will be without midfielder James Morrison.

The Scotland international suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday's 2-1 away triumph over Blackburn. Graham Dorrans and Jerome Thomas are in contention to replace him.
