Marc Albrighton hits 20,000th Premier League goal
ALBRIGHTON EASY ... Aston Villa's Marc Albrighton slots home the 20,000th Premier League goal

MARC ALBRIGHTON made history by firing home the 20,000th Premier League goal.

But the Aston Villa winger then confessed his historic strike lost its glamour the moment Yossi Benayoun headed home Arsenal's 87th minute winner.

Albrighton booked his place in the history books after 54 minutes of his side's 2-1 home defeat to Arsenal when he beat Wojciech Szczesny.

But he confessed: "It's one of those things you'll remember for the rest of your life but I have to admit it's been soured because we lost."

Albrighton was only two years old when Sheffield United's Brian Deane scored the first Premier League goal against Manchester United in 1992.

And he will donate the £20,000 prize put up by Barclays to Villa's charity, the Acorns children's hospice.

His manager Alex McLeish revealed: "It was nice for Marc to get the goal because he's been doubting himself since the start of the season."

Brian Deane scored the first ever Premier League in Sheffield United's 2-1 victory over Manchester United in August 1992.

Blackburn hitman Chris Sutton converted the 5,000th goal in 1996, while Les Ferdinand netted the 10,000th Premier League goal for Tottenham.

Fulham defender Moritz Volz was the surprise scorer of the 15,000th goal.
