Montpellier have slapped a massive £16m price-tag on Arsenal target Olivier Giroud.
Arsenal have tracked the striker for some time now and were mulling over a January move.
Arsene Wenger decided not to make a bid last month, instead opting to keep an eye on Giroud's situation in France.
The 25-year-old is said to be keen on a move to England and hopes to secure a switch in the summer but Montpellier are eager to get the best price possible for him.
The French club hope to spark an auction between Arsenal and Juventus in the summer as the Serie A giants are also said to be keen on Giroud.
But the bidding is likely to have to start at around £16m for the France international, who has scored 28 goals in 59 league games for Montpellier.
Montpellier believe they are in a strong bargaining position when it comes to dealing with interest from elsewhere as the player's contract expires in 2014.
