Mourinho open to Inter Milan return

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has been linked with Inter Milan barely a day after Andrea Stramaccioni's appointment.

After their 2-0 loss to traditional rivals Juventus, Inter Milan find themselves languishing in eight place, a far cry from what the former European Champions are used. It is believed that the ten point gap between the Nerazzurri and a Champions League qualification spot was what prompted Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti to fire previous manager Claudio Ranieri.

The club have chosen to promote from within, selecting youth coach Andrea Stramaccioni to take charge of the first team. However, Moratti has refused to rule out the possibility of appointing a more experienced manager after the current league season.

One candidate being linked to the job is Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese reportedly told Sky Sport Italia that a return to his former position is a definite possibility.

"Inter is my home; a return home is always possible." Mourinho said.

Despite Stramaccioni lacking in top flight management experience, Moratti is confident in the Italian's abilities.

"Stramaccioni has talent and is very good from a tactical perspective, so anything could happen, I hope that actually he could be a solution for the future. If he wins all his games, I could hold on to him." he said to Sky Sport 24.

Admitting that the team's Serie A season has been a failure, the Nerazzurri president hopes Stramaccioni's appointment would at least signal winds of change for the rest of the campaign.

"In terms of European qualification, I hope we can do it but I don't believe we can and the failure to qualify would be a big problem for us. His arrival is a good thing, at least we awake in the morning with a fresh atmosphere [around the club]." Moratti shared.

Inter Milan host Genoa in their Serie A fixture this Sunday.
