Hazard: Pep perfect for Spurs

Former Tottenham midfielder Micky Hazard believes Pep Guardiola would be the perfect fit for the vacant manager's chair at White Hart Lane.

On Thursday, Spurs announced they had parted company with Harry Redknapp after he failed to deliver UEFA Champions League football to the club for next season.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is currently the bookies' favourite to succeed the 65-year-old Englishman, but Hazard believes Spurs must do everything in their power to get Barca legend Guardiola to sign for the club instead.

"If we had the choice of everyone that's out there, there's only one name that stands out and that's Guardiola," he told talkSPORT.

"He would fit in perfectly with our style of play.

"People might say that that is impossible but sometimes dreams come true. It's not about the money with him, he's probably wealthy enough now to live his life twice over without any problems.

"With Guardiola it's about the project. We could give him 10 years to turn Spurs into the next Barcelona, a team that dominates Europe. Tottenham should push the boat out to get him."

Among the trophies Guardiola won during an incredible spell in charge of the Catalans includes two Champions League crowns, three La Liga trophies and two FIFA Club World Cups.

Meanwhile, Redknapp believes he was sacked by Tottenham in "strange, unexpected circumstances".

Redknapp was appointed to the role in October 2008 following the sacking of Juande Ramos after Spurs had taken just two points from their first eight Barclays Premier League games.

In his first full season in charge, he guided Spurs to fourth position taking them into the Champions League for the first time.

However, since then Redknapp has twice failed to secure Champions League football, although they were unfortunate this season as Chelsea snatched the last available place away from them with their win over Bayern in this year's final.
