French striker Giovanni Sio was sent on loan to Augsburg for a year by Bundesliga rivals VfL Wolfsburg, his new club announced on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old - who represented France up to Under-18 level but is also eligible to play for the Ivory Coast - failed to score for Wolfsburg in nine appearances after joining them in January from Swiss side Sion on a three-and-a-half-year contract.
"With Giovanni Sio, we have taken on a player who is as confortable playing as the target man as well as on both flanks," said Augsburg coach Mark Weinzirl.
Sio, who came through the youth system at Nantes before moving to Spanish side Real Sociedad, said he thought his move would aid him to progress.
"I am convinced that I will make progress at Augsburg and I will also be of help to the team," he said.
Augsburg finished a creditable 14th in their debut season in the Bundesliga last season while Wolfsburg finished eighth.
