Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov could be on his way to Russia after champions Zenit St Petersburg entered the race to sign the unsettled Bulgarian.
Berbatov, 31, is widely expected to leave Old Trafford this summer after voicing his frustration at life at Old Trafford, having fallen behind the likes of Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck in the pecking order.
The former Bulgaria international, who is United’s record signing, is available for a cut-price fee of £5m, and has attracted interest from a string of top clubs across Europe, including AC Milan, who are looking to replace Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
However, according to Russian newspaper Life Sports, Zenit have made contact with Berbatov’s representative Emil Danchev and are willing to offer the Bulgarian a two-year deal worth £3.9m a season.
