John Boyle fired a first-half hat-trick as Airdrie demolished fellow promoted side Dumbarton 4-1 on the opening day of the Irn-Bru First Division at New Broomfield.
The Diamonds went ahead in the 14th minute with their first attack of the game when striker Boyle wriggled free inside the Sons' penalty area before finding the bottom left-hand corner with his right foot.
Striker Bryan Prunty headed over from six yards as Alan Adamson's side went in search of an equaliser before Boyle lashed home left-footed for his second of the afternoon after 25 minutes.
And Boyle was again celebrating six minutes later as he poked home right-footed from six yards out to claim the match ball.
James Lister's close-range finish reduced the arrears with little under half an hour remaining but substitute Paul Di Giacomo tapped in Boyle's cross two minutes from time to seal a comfortable victory.
