I have a say

Robbie Findley may very well be on the fast track back to Major League Soccer.

The 2010 USA World Cup forward had his contract with Nottingham Forest terminated by mutual consent, the League Championship side announced on Monday. Findley had fallen completely off the radar at Forest, spending the first half of the season on loan with League Two side Gillingham.

Findley joined the club from Real Salt Lake in 2011, but the 27-year-old battled injuries and never cemented himself as a consistent starter for a club that had five managers in his brief time there. Findley scored six goals in all competitions while with Forest, all of which came in the 2011-12 season.

According to a report last week from Soccer By Ives, RSL has arranged to reacquire Findley, whose MLS rights are held by the Portland Timbers. Portland selected Findley during its expansion draft in 2010 despite having the knowledge that Findley was going to sign with Nottingham Forest. The report on SBI suggests that the two MLS clubs have agreed to a trade, and now that Findley has been released from his contract, the path to completing that trade would appear to be clear.

Should Findley rejoin Salt Lake, he would fill a need for the club, which dealt one of its starting strikers, Fabian Espindola, to the New York Red Bulls during the offseason. In four seasons with Real Salt Lake, the speedy Findley tallied 29 goals, including a career-high 12 in 2009. He also has four career postseason goals, three of which came in his breakout 2009 campaign.

Findley earned a place on Bob Bradley's U.S. national team roster for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, starting three of the four games the Americans played in the tournament, including the knockout-round loss to Ghana.
