Former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo unsure on next move
Roberto Di Matteo: Yet to decide on his next move in management

Former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo says he has not yet decided when he will return to management but admits his next move will be 'crucial' to his career.

Di Matteo led the Blues to historic UEFA Champions League glory last season after succeeding Andre Villas-Boas at the helm but was sacked just six months later following a decline in Chelsea's form.

The Swiss-born Italian, who has also managed at MK Dons and West Brom, is enjoying his career break and not putting a date on his return.

But the 42-year-old feels his next step will be an important one and is not ruling out staying in England or eventually returning to Italy.

Former Chelsea and Lazio player Di Matteo told Gazzetta dello Sport: "I have a contract with Chelsea until 2014 and I have been unemployed for a few months. I have not yet been bored.

"I don't know when I'll be back (managing).

"A return to Italy? One day, who knows. I love Italy.

"I was fond of Lazio, who are having a very good season.

"I feel Italian, but also European. And my children go to school in London, so for the moment it is difficult for me to imagine being far away.

"The next choice will be crucial for my career."

King

Didier Drogba, who scored the winning penalty which sealed Chelsea's Champions League success against Bayern Munich under Di Matteo, is being linked with a host of Italian clubs after struggling to settle at new side Shanghai Shenhua following his summer exit from Stamford Bridge.

Di Matteo believes the Ivory Coast striker would be a top signing for any of the Serie A giants, adding: "AC Milan or Juventus or Lazio: whoever takes him will be getting a bargain.

"With us Drogba was the king. He stayed eight years at Chelsea, he scored a lot of goals.

"It was impressive to feel the confidence that he conveyed to the team. With him, you win."
