The club official believes the capture of the Manchester City forward has shown the footballing world that the Italian side still have the finances to entice top players
AC Milan director Barbara Berlusconi says the signing of Mario Balotelli proves the club still has the financial muscle to attract the planet’s top stars.
The Rossoneri are set to confirm the transfer of the Italy international before the close of the transfer window on Thursday, and Berlusconi, daughter of club owner Silvio, reckons the signing shows Milan are still a powerful name in world football.
“This transfer has demonstrated that Milan can still invest substantial amounts in top players,” she told the club’s official website.
“Our club has, in the last year or so, completely reorganised costing and investments. It was about rationalisation, and various sacrifices were needed, not just in terms of player salaries but also about repositioning the brand.
“Milan were the first club to choose to organise their accounts and balance the books.”
Berlusconi also believes that the approach the club have taken to finances in recent times will place them in a good position when dealing with future transfers.
“Thanks to this strong decision, we can only stand to benefit with our stars of the future, and still also be able to make some important acquisitions.”
The 22-year-old Balotelli had fallen out of favour with City coach Roberto Mancini after a string of off-field controversies and performances on the pitch that saw him score just three goals this season.
