Brighton and Hove Albion are monitoring Noel Hunt's contract situation at Reading with a view to making an offer at the end of the season.
The Irishman is out of contract at the Madejski Stadium at the end of this campaign, along with Alex Pearce and Jay Tabb, who is currently on loan at Ipswich.
The former Dundee United man has been offered a one-year deal by the
Berkshire club but the 30-year-old wants a two-year contract after five years of service.
After the appointment of new manager Nigel Adkins in March, director of football Nicky Hammond stated any players with expiring contracts would be spoken to in the final weeks of the season.
But the Royals may have to act fast if they intend on keeping the striker who has scored an impressive six goals this season, despite starting just 11 league and cup matches since promotion from the Championship last term.
