Getafe vs Rayo Vallecano preview - Garcia aware of Rayo threat

Getafe coach Luis Garcia believes Rayo Vallecano will be more dangerous than ever when they arrive at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Sunday, as they seek to make amends for a run of three straight league defeats.

A 5-2 loss at home to Villarreal last Monday was followed by a vitriolic press conference from Paco Jemez, who was no kinder to his players following a goalless draw with Levante in the Copa del Rey.

The Rayo coach declared he was "tired of making excuses" for some of his players.

Rayo are 19th in the Primera Division table but Garcia is wary of how his team's opponents might react in the face of such adversity.

"Rayo will go out onto the pitch with a point to prove and nothing to lose and will give 100 percent," the Getafe coach said at a press conference.

"That is what Paco has been trying to ensure with his recent press conferences.

"I heard him speak yesterday, he's trying to stir his players into action because if they keep on making errors in the next four games it's going to be very tough for them.

"For them the match will be like a cup final."

Both coaches are expected to make changes to the teams they fielded in the Copa del Rey this week.

Rayo will definitely be without centre-forward Joaquin Larrivey and defender Anaitz Arbilla due to injury, while Garcia has a full squad to choose from.

Although Getafe are in a far more comfortable position than their neighbours - they are currently 10th in the table and seven points clear of the bottom three - Garcia recognised the game was also important to his own side, who have also lost their last three league matches.

Getafe began 2014 with a 3-0 defeat at Sevilla and then went down 4-0 in the Copa del Rey.

"Both teams have to win," said Jemez.

"We need to win to get out of this poor run and they need to win to get out of the relegation zone. It's important for us to get out of a rut.

"It's a very important game, because it's the end of the first half of the season, because we've lost three games a row in the league and because I wasn't happy with how we played in Seville.

"We have to start enjoying our football again, win, be able to hug each other, laugh and not leave matches with a long face. We want to be a good team again, now's the time for a change."
