Fiorentina vs Genoa preview - Genoa in double swoop

Genoa have bolstered their defensive line with the arrivals of Nicolas Burdisso and Marco Motta ahead of Sunday's match at Fiorentina.

Burdisso has joined from Roma on a permanent transfer while Motta has arrived on a six-month loan deal from Juventus this week.

Both players could feature this weekend in Tuscany as Genoa look to pick up where they left off in last weekend's 1-0 triumph over Inter Milan.

That victory was Genoa's first at home against Inter in 20 years and allowed the team to bounce back from their 4-0 defeat at Roma.

"We really did well and my players were hungrier than Inter to come out triumphant," Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini said.

"This victory means a lot to us and we hope we can continue in the manner of this performance."

Genoa are 10th in the standings and go into the encounter at the Artemio Franchi stadium looking to clinch their first win on the road since November 3.

They have mustered one point of a possible 12 away from home since.

Genoa can expect a stern test against a Fiorentina side that remains unbeaten since December 15.

Fiorentina go into the encounter in fine spirits after edging Tuscan neighbours Siena 2-1 on Thursday to progress to the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.

"To have reached the last four of the Coppa is a good achievement," said Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella. "Now we will face Udinese in the next round and we know it will be tough to reach the final but we will give our best."

In the meantime, Fiorentina attempt to maintain their impressive form in Serie A, which has seen them clinch four wins in their last five league games.

Alessandro Matri will lead Fiorentina's attack against Genoa.

Matri, who scored twice on his Fiorentina debut in Sunday's 3-0 triumph at Catania, was rested in midweek.

Fiorentina are fourth in Serie A, three points adrift of Napoli who hold the last Champions League qualifying spot.

They will be without Nenad Tomovic for at least two weeks, with the Serbian defender having damaged his kneecap last weekend. Fellow defender Javier Rodriguez must serve a one-match ban.
