CARDIFF boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists he will NOT have a lump in his throat when he hears Old Trafford roar for him again tonight.

Solskjaer will be hoping his lowly Cardiff side can cause an upset at his former club

The former Manchester United striker will walk out of the tunnel by the Stretford End for the first time as an opposing manager.

Solskjaer spent 11 years at United and scored countless memorable goals including his most famous to secure the Champions League and complete the Treble in 1999.

He was guaranteed star billing until the arrival of Juan Mata over the weekend and his likely debut tonight.

He has spent the last few days in Manchester with Cardiff staying over following their FA Cup win at Bolton on Saturday, and has been stopped by adoring fans already.

He said: “Roy Keane has been back, Bryan Robson has been back.

“There have been loads of ex-players who have gone back there and had a good reception, before and after the game.

“But during the 90 minutes, the fans are United supporters.

Solskjaer is looking forward to an emotional return to his former stomping ground

“The United fans are the best in the world when it comes to recognising their former players.

“They have been coming up to me, but hopefully, in 15 years’ time, the Cardiff fans will be doing the same.

“I’m not too emotional. I think it caught me two hours after my testimonial I had in 2008 because I was knackered with everything you have to do but I will be alright.”

Solskjaer revealed his favourite memory of Old Trafford was a double over Newcastle in 2006 after he had returned from a lengthy knee injury.

His son Noah, then six, got a chance to see his dad in his prime which meant everything to him after he spent a long time out of action.

But his son will not be in the crowd tonight with school taking priority, and Solskjaer does not believe he will be creating lasting memories if his Cardiff side pull off a shock.

The bottom-of-the-table Bluebirds are not expected to take anything from Old Trafford and Solskjaer just wants them to leave with pride.

He said: “It will just be three points if we win.

“We can’t say that we are going to win, we are going to go there and put a performance on that we will be proud of.

“You come back home with no regrets.”
