CHELSEA boss Jose Mourinho has told Fernando Torres he must stay and fight for his place after insisting the £50m flop will not be leaving Stamford Bridge this summer.

Torres had been tipped for a return to boyhood club Atletico Madrid with Mourinho needing to shed a foreign player to meet the Premier League quota of 17 imports over the age of 21.

But Mourinho is adamant Torres is not the player who will be sacrificed.

Instead, the misfiring striker has a fight on his hands for first team action with new boy Diego Costa and returning veteran Didier Drogba.

Mourinho said: "Three strikers is fundamental in a squad and we have three strikers; Fernando, Didier and Diego so one of them is not (going) for sure."

That is easier said than done after 'The Special One' vowed to let Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois prove to him who deserves to be first choice keeper this season.
