Chelsea agree £8m fee for France international

Chelsea have agreed an £8million fee with QPR for star striker Loic Remy, according to various reports.

The Blues are on the hunt for a new forward after letting Fernando Torres join AC Milan on a two-year loan on Friday, pending the Spaniard agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.

And Jose Mourinho appears to have acted quickly in the transfer market by moving for the France international, who played at this summer's World Cup.

Remy enjoyed a highly successful loan spell with Newcastle last season, finishing as the club's top scorer with 14 Premier League goals.

However, the 27-year-old has always made it perfectly clear he wishes to play in the Champions League and now looks set to get his wish with Chelsea.

Remy has a staggered buy-out clause with the Hoops, meaning clubs in Europe's top competition can pay just £8m to land the striker, whereas teams such as Newcastle would have to pay a higher fee.

Earlier on in the summer the Frenchman look destined to join Liverpool after the Reds met that fee, however, in confusing circumstances it was then reported the striker failed a medical at Anfield, causing the switch to be scrapped.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp questioned if that was the case but with Chelsea now meeting Remy's buy-out clause, the former Marseille striker looks set to seal a move to Stamford Bridge.
