The King of Africa

The Real Madrid captain's illustrious career is closely tied to his successes in the Dark Continent, where he has already won two big titles. In Morocco he might be able to claim his third world title and consolidate his position as King of Africa.

After his triumphs in Nigeria and Johannesburg, Casillas is out to pick up his world champion hat trick in Marrakech.

Casillas' love affair with Africa dates back to 1999, when the young 17-year-old took a plane with the Spain U-20 team to take part in the World Cup for that category. Aranzubia was the starting keeper, but Iker proved decisive in the championship during the penalty shoot-out against Ghana in the quarterfinals. He then didn't play in the semifinal or in the final, but as he had taken part he could still call himself a world champion. This was just the beginning.

Years later he returned to take part in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Spain went down in football history by beating Holland in the final. Iker, as captain, lifted the cup. Today, the man from 'La Casa Blanca' returns to play it again.
