Fernando: Man City must NOT sack excellent Manuel Pellegrini

MANCHESTER CITY star Fernando has urged the club not to sack Manuel Pellegrini.

Pellegrini is facing the chop at the Etihad in the wake of his side's poor season.

The champions have crashed out of all three Cup competitions before the quarter-final stage and trail Chelsea in the title race.

Pellegrini is expected to be axed in the summer if he fails to overhaul the Blues at the top of the table, with Carlo Ancelotti and Diego Simeone among the favourites to replace him.

But Brazil midfielder Fernando reckons Pellegrini is still the man for the job and knows what he is doing.

He said: "Manuel is an excellent manager. He gives us a lot of confidence, is a very calm manager and listens to us a lot which is a good way to work.

"He is also a very experienced manager - we have a lot to learn from him and he still has a lot to give."

Fernando insists City will never give up the title fight, despite trailing Jose Mourinho's men by five points at the top of the table having played a game more.

He added: "We are still fighting for the title and as long as it is mathematically possible, we will do our best to win.

"We have eight games ahead of us and will do our best to win all of them and win the Premier League at the end."
