ROY HODGSON wants a new goalkeeper to stake his claim for a place in his England squad.
Hodgson is facing a keeper crisis following serious injuries to Fraser Forster and Ben Foster.
Southampton star Forster has broken his kneecap and will be sidelined for up to 12 months, while West Brom's Foster will miss the rest of the season at least with a damaged knee ligaments.
It has left Hodgson with just Joe Hart and Jack Butland at his disposal, and the coach admits he is short on cover.
Hodgson is keen for a rising star to emerge and show him he can be good enough at international level.
CRISIS: Both Ben Foster and Fraser Forster have suffered long-term injuries
He said: "We're devastated. I've been in touch (with Forster), but there's not much you can do to cheer him up.
"It's the same situation with Ben Foster. It will keep him out the rest of this season and a good way into next.
"But like in all situations like this one, it's a good opportunity for every goalkeeper in the country to show me and my staff what they can do.
"In the past we've thought people were hard to replace, but then others have come along and this is no different."
