Cordoba C.F. vs Elche preview - Cordoba not giving up yet

Midfielder Borja Garcia has vowed to "fight to the end" as rock-bottom Cordoba prepare to host fellow Primera Division strugglers Elche on Sunday.

The Andalusian side, who secured promotion from the Segunda Division via the play-offs last season, have not won a La Liga match since January 12, losing 10 out of 12 games since then.

That dismal run of results has left Cordoba sitting bottom of the league and eight points off safety, but Garcia says there will be no quiet acceptance of relegation at the Estadio Nuevo Arcangel.

"We have to continue working with dignity and fight to the end," he told the club's website.

A midweek 1-1 draw at Deportivo La Coruna was particularly hard to take after Florin Andone cancelled out his own second-half strike by putting into his own net in the dying moments, but Garcia stressed there were positives to take from that display into this weekend.

"The game against Elche should be an extension of the good things we did in Riazor and will do all we can to get the victory," he added.

"Our fans have supported us throughout and they deserve the victory in this next game."

Elche are 16th in the standings, three points above the drop zone, but have lost three of their last four games including a painful defeat at home to Getafe in midweek.

Elche had looked set to pick up a valuable point only to see Getafe, in a rare venture forward, snatch the spoils through an 84th-minute goal from Fredy Hinestroza.

Coach Fran Escriba said: "It's a blow, but we need to lift ourselves straight away and think about Sunday."
