Chelsea and Arsenal leading race for Moussa Konate

It’s believed that Chelsea and Arsenal are leading the race for £10 million-rated Sion striker Moussa Konate, with several other Premier League clubs also interested in his services, as reported by the Sunday People (via the Mirror).

The paper claims that the likes of West Ham, Everton and Tottenham had been keeping an eye on the 22-year-old, who is probably best known for scoring five goals for Senegal at the London 2012 Olympics, including a strike against Team GB, but the two London giants are said to be ahead of the chasing pack.

Konate joined Swiss club Sion from Russian side Krasnodar last year, but despite his young age he has plenty of experience around Europe, having previously played for the likes of Genoa in Italy and Maccabi Tel-Aviv in Israel. He also has 10 caps for Senegal, adding to that vast experience at club level.

Although Chelsea and Arsenal are believed to be the front-runners for his signature, Konate’s agent Antoine Issa Kossoko had this to say: “Lots of English clubs are interested in Moussa – Chelsea and Arsenal scouts are keeping an eye on him – but he is not obsessed with the Premier League and will consider good offers from Germany, Spain or England.

"Hannover, Mainz and Bruges were keen on him this summer, offering up to £6m. But Sion said they would not sell for less than £10m."

Konate has made a fantastic start in the Europa League this term, scoring both of Sion’s goals in their 2-1 home win over Rubin Kazan on Thursday night, with a shot accuracy of 100% and an average pass accuracy of 88%.

As for his two potential suitors, Chelsea saw off Arsenal yesterday 2-0 at Stamford Bridge; their first home win of the Premier League season. The champions are now on seven points from their opening six games, sitting 13th, whilst the Gunners sit on 10 points in fifth.
