Burton Albion FC 0 - 0 Crewe Alexandra: Goal-shy Burton held at home by Crewe

Burton's goal drought continued as lowly visitors Crewe battled to a 0-0 stalemate.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's high-fliers have now found the net only once in five games - and that an own goal by Southend defender Luke Prosser.

Alex found themselves under early pressure and keeper Ben Garratt did well to palm Robbie Weir's fizzing shot to safety before Mark Duffy fired over from 15 yards.

The visitors had to soak up more pressure but, after their bright start, Burton struggled to carve out openings.

Lucas Akins had a chance to fire the hosts in front as half-time approached but directed his six-yard shot too close to Garratt.

Nasser El Khayati's shot was kept out by Garratt's one-handed save as Burton made a strong start to the second half.

But Crewe again frustrated them and hinted at posing an attacking threat for the first time when James Jones broke forward to have a shot blocked.

Fellow substitute Ryan Colclough also worked an opening - only to fire over from 18 yards.

Burton thought they had won the game in the last minute but Duffy's free-kick stayed out after hitting the underside of the crossbar.
