Gillingham 2 - 1 Scunthorpe United: Late drama leaves Gillingham at the top of League One

Gillingham remain top of League One after Harry Lennon's stoppage-time winner helped them come from behind to beat Scunthorpe United 2-1 at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium.

Gary McSheffrey came close to an opener twice with long-range efforts in the opening half and Scott Wiseman shot just wide shortly before the break following a surging run.

Scott Laird put the visitors ahead on 53 minutes with his second goal in as many games, as the former Preston North End defender volleyed in at the back post from Wiseman's deep cross.

Substitute Brennan Dickenson levelled six minutes later, powerfully heading in Bradley Dack's corner from close range.

The Gills, who have not lost at home since April, were reduced to 10 men after referee Lee Swaby dismissed Josh Wright for a foul on Paddy Madden in the 81st minute.

However, on-loan Charlton defender Lennon headed in Dack's inswinging free-kick two minutes into stoppage time to give the Kent side the victory.

Scunthorpe did almost earn themselves a point in stoppage time, but Gills goalkeeper Stuart Nelson somehow kept out Murray Wallace's point-blank range header with the last touch of the game.
