Hartlepool United FC 1 - 1 Barnet: Barnet take their first away point at Hartlepool

Barnet picked up their first away point of the season courtesy of a 1-1 draw at Hartlepool in Sky Bet League Two.

The Bees' long trip to the north east on the day of the game brought a deserved reward for Martin Allen's side thanks to John Akinde's strike midway through the second period.

Pools took the lead on seven minutes when Rakish Bingham broke away and the counter-attack led to Rhys Oates tapping in from close range.

Andy Yiadom blasted wide when he should have levelled and Pools wasted a chance at the other end as Billy Paynter missed the target despite being in on goal.

Akinde was denied a leveller by an offside flag on 48 minutes, before his rising strike was pushed out by Trevor Carson.

But the Barnet frontman was not to be denied on 64 minutes, taking advantage of a mix-up between Carson and defender Dan Jones to lift the ball into an empty net.

From then on, the visitors caused problems aplenty for Pools in an energetic performance.

The hosts' best opportunity of the second period came when Oates rounded goalkeeper Jamie Stephens, only for defender Gavin Hoyte to somehow clear off the line.
