Sheffield Wed. 1 - 0 Nottingham Forest: Fernando Forestieri nets Sheffield Wednesday winner against Nottingham Forest

Fernando Forestieri's goal midway through the second half gave Sheffield Wednesday a 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest to extend their unbeaten run to 10 games.

It was the impressive Forestieri's fourth goal since signing from Watford at the end of August.

Fresh from their 3-0 Capital One Cup victory over Arsenal in midweek, the Owls were looking for another win to maintain their climb up the Sky Bet Championship table.

They dominated the match and created a number of chances but had to be content with a slender triumph.

Forest rarely posed an attacking threat and spent much of the game trying to keep an attacking Wednesday at bay.

Wednesday's Ross Wallace put an early angled effort beyond the far post, while Forest's first effort of note came from a Jamie Ward free-kick which was comfortably saved by Keiren Westwood.

Kieran Lee had a good chance to put Wednesday in front after being put through by Barry Bannan, but his effort was saved by Dimitar Evtimov who also kept out Daniel Pudil's follow-up.

The hosts had further opportunities to open the scoring before the break, with Lee shooting wide from inside the area and Jack Hunt testing Evtimov with a shot on the turn.

Ward had Forest's best chance when he headed wide at the near post after flinging himself forward to meet a cross from Daniel Pinillos.

Soon after the restart, Atdhe Nuhiu posed an aerial threat, heading just over from a Bannan cross.

Forestieri (68) struck with a 20-yard effort to give Wednesday the lead. Diving to his right, Evtimov got a hand to the ball but could only help it into the net.

Substitute Lucas Joao wasted a great chance to put the home side further in front when Jeremy Helan squared to him inside the area and he fired wide of the target.

The lively Joao showed some neat footwork to create some space for himself and get into the area before shooting just over.

Striker Gary Hooper, signed on loan from Norwich, came on in place of Nuhiu for his Wednesday debut in the closing stages of the match.

Wallace threatened to add a second goal in stoppage time when he made a good run into the area before firing into the side-netting. Seeing the net bulge, some home fans celebrated as they mistakenly thought Wallace's effort had gone in.

The result left Forest without a win in their last seven games, with pressure seemingly mounting on manager Dougie Freedman.
