Liverpool had scouts in attendance as Paris Saint-Germain smashed Rennes 4-0 in order to run the rule over playmaker Javier Pastore, according to France Football.
The Reds are expected to undergo a major summer of transfer activity as manager Jurgen Klopp aims to truly craft a squad in his own image ahead of his first full campaign in charge.
They have been strongly linked with a move for Mario Gotze, though it is now the Argentine they reportedly turned their attentions to.
Respected Reds scout Kevin Hunt is thought to have been asked to view the 27-year old at close quarters.
Such is the high competition for places in the French capital, the former Palermo man hasn't always been first choice since a €42m move from Italy in 2011.
Though he his current deal runs out in 2019, the Parisians are believed to still retain doubts as to whether he will ever fulfil his true potential.
Widely regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in world football prior to his Ligue 1 switch, Pastore hasn't progressed in the way many would have liked.
Chelsea have also been credited with an interest, in what could prove to be a pivotal summer in the career of El Flaco.
