In the most heartwarming football story of the day, the Manchester Evening News report that Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has helped to make the dying wish of an elderly fan come true.
William Moore, 80, is dying from a terminal brain tumour and recently voiced his wish to see United in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace at Wembley later this month.
Shaw said that it would be ‘my pleasure to get him to watch the game’ and the star’s offer has been matched by United fans around the country who have offered William their seats as well as transport.
William was diagnosed with the aggressive tumour three weeks ago. He used to regularly go to Old Trafford but had to stop fifteen years ago when he became his wife Joan’s full time carer after she was diagnosed with dementia.
Joan passed away in December and their three daughters have been trying to get William to spend more time watching football. Now with time running out they want William to enjoy his passion.
MEN report that William first became a United fan after befriending club legend Duncan Edwards during army service.
