The Daily Mail claim the Championship clubs are vying for his signature.
Rafa Benitez is said to be monitoring his availability.
But it's suggested Slavisa Jokanovic at Craven Cottage is now also set to enter the race for £11m-rated ace.
The Birmingham Mail reported earlier this month that Aston Villa boss Roberto di Matteo wants the attacker at Villa Park.
The Villans reportedly tracked the forward last year but decided against a move, despite then Tim Sherwood's recommendations.
Gayle had an impressive goalscoring record during his time in the Championship for Peterborough.
He netted 13 times in 29 games for Posh before his move to Palace.
The 25-year-old made just 20 appearances for Alan Pardew's side this season, netting seven times.
