Aberdeen vs FK Ventspils - Miles Storey set for Dons debut in Europa League qualifier

Miles Storey revealed an inspirational meeting with Derek McInnes sold him on the move to Aberdeen.

The 22-year-old attacker, who spent last season on loan at Inverness, joined from Swindon Town and could make his debut against Ventspils in the second qualifying round of the Europa League at Pittodrie on Thursday night although it is likely to be off the bench.

Storey recalled how a chat with Aberdeen boss McInnes persuaded him to sign for the Granite City club.

He said: "At the end of the season I had a chat with the manager here, and it was an hour of talking about football, his views on the club, the way the club was going forward, how he wanted his teams to play, and within an hour I had no more questions.

"I knew I wanted to come here and be a part of it and try to achieve something.

"I haven't been here very long but what I can tell so far, it is ultra-professional, everything down to the last little detail, whether that is training, the food we eat, the science behind the football, I've been really impressed and I am really looking forward to making an impact and trying to get myself into the team."

Indeed, Storey, who has had loan spells with clubs in the lower leagues in England at Shrewsbury Town, Portsmouth and Newport County, believes more young players should move north of the border and enjoy themselves.

He said: "I've been on a lot of loan moves and I've been at Swindon since I was 16. But last year when I was at Inverness I really enjoyed myself.

"I really enjoyed playing against teams like Aberdeen, teams like Celtic, and playing against good players who play international football and you won't get that in League Two and lower than that.

"The Scottish Premiership is a massive league, and if the opportunity was there for me to stay in Scotland I always wanted to stay.

"No disrespect to the lower leagues in England but there's a lot more coverage up here and it means a lot more to the fans I think.

"There's more TV games and that kind of thing."

Storey, however, knows he will have to battle with Adam Rooney and fellow new signing Jayden Stockley for a starting spot for the Dons.

"When you look at the strikers we have here now I think we all offer something different," he said.

"I like to run in behind, I'm quite direct, and play on the last shoulder of the defence. Rooney is a poacher, he'll finish anything.

"And Jayden is unbelievable in the air and he's a finisher as well.

"Whichever way we want to play, we've got an option."
