Arsene Wenger: This is what Arsenal lacked in Champions League draw with PSG

ARSENAL blew their chance of giving themselves an easier ride into the final stage of the Champions League.

Paris Saint-Germain ended top of the group on the head to basis against the Gunners, because they scored two goals away from home to Arsenal’s one. Now if the French side win against Ludogorets at home on December 6 they will win the group whatever Arsenal do in their final game in Basel.

Arsene Wenger’s team, unless a miracle happens, will now almost certainly find themselves facing one of Barcelona, Napoli, Atletico Madrid, Monaco, Juventus or Borussia Dortmund in yet another tough last-16 clash.

A disappointed Wenger said: “We got a point. It might not be enough, but you never know. We lacked creativity. We gave a lot, and we came back from 1-0 down to lead 2-1 but then gave away an own goal.

"We had good spells but we could not dominate. My concern is that we were 2-1 up and allowed them to come back at us. It’s difficult to understand how easily we gave away a goal at a corner.

"We lack something in our creativity but we got a point. It might not be enough but you never know.”

Defender Kieran Gibbs added: “When you’re 2-1 up, you want to finish the job so obviously it’s disappointing. It’s something that we can learn from and we want to improve. We could have been technically better and more dangerous. A draw was what we deserved. When we picked up momentum we looked very dangerous, it’s just about how we do that more consistently.”

PSG manager Unai Emery said: “We still have to play Ludogorets but we’re top and that’s important. We deserved that result in terms of the way the game went. Analyse the two games against Arsenal and we do deserve it.

"It was a good test for us. I’m very pleased. We came up against a strong side, who like to keep the ball. Lucas Moura and Maxwell did very well - it was a fair result. Arsenal are a good side who worked well. But we had some big chances after the game at 2-2.”

Striker Edinson Cavani appeared to punch Aaron Ramsey as he led the protests after Arsenal’s first half penalty was awarded. Emery said: “The referee decided it was a penalty, so end of. It gets a bit heated at times and that can spill over.”
